Retinal laser treatments
Retinal laser treatments are one of the main therapeutic resources in ophthalmology for the prevention and management of numerous retinal diseases. Thanks to the use of advanced technologies, lasers allow for precise and targeted intervention on the affected areas, helping to preserve visual function and, in many cases, prevent the progression of the disease.
Retinal laser treatments are performed for:
- Diabetic retinopathy: A serious complication of diabetes that affects the retina, causing a reduced blood supply. This condition causes the growth of new blood vessels that can damage the eye, particularly the retina.
- Macular edema: collection of fluid under the retina due to an inflammatory process or changes in the blood vessels.
- Retinal vessel occlusion
- Peripheral retinal tears and degenerations.
- Formation of new blood vessels in the choroid, the membrane between the retina and the sclera, due to age-related macular degeneration.
